JYM Athlete: Alex Siquig
Unlike most fitness influencers who’re naturally athletic and have been in at least decent shape most of their lives, Alex Siquig was a very skinny guy for most of his life. During his freshman year in college, he was also trapped in a toxic relationship which had a huge impact on his mental health. After the relationship ended he downward spiraled into depression until he had his “enough is enough” moment. He distracted himself from his feelings of sadness with fitness. After only a few months of religiously sticking to an exercise plan, he was able to pack on lot’s of lean muscle and perform a variety of difficult calisthenics exercises everyone dreams of doing. The confidence and self-esteem boost he got from fitness drastically improved the quality of his life and helped kick-start his career in fitness.

What got you into fitness in the first place?
During my freshmen year in college I was a very skinny guy. I was also in a toxic relationship which made me insecure & have low self esteem. After the break up, I was so depressed and one day I just had enough. So I searched for information on YouTube and Google about how to be happy. One of the factors mentioned over and over was working out. Within 3 months of following some random workout online religiously I got super lean, strong & was able to do superhuman strength moves such as the human flag, muscleup & handstand pushups. Overall, this boosted my confidence level & made me feel happier.
What were some of the biggest challenges in your fitness journey?
I was working out at Golds gym at the time & I was always comparing my ectomorph frame to the other huge bodybuilders. So getting over comparing my Chapter 1 to someone’s chapter 10 was a big challenge. Another challenge was simply not having the basic understanding of the human body, mechanics and nutrition to help you either lose fat or building muscle.
